Is your baby ready for solids?

Readiness is about development, not a date on the calendar. Look for all five signs before that first bite.

  1. Around 6 months oldAdjusted for prematurity. Age alone isn't enough.
  2. Sits up with little or no supportUpright posture makes swallowing safer and easier.
  3. Steady head and neck controlHolds their head steady for the whole meal.
  4. Tongue-thrust reflex has fadedMoves food to the back of the mouth instead of pushing it out.
  5. Shows interest and brings things to mouthWatches you eat, reaches for your plate, brings toys to mouth.

Not quite there yet? That's completely normal.
